The parks and gardens in San Sebastian are a perfect place to retreat to on hot summer days. The city is home to many green areas where the locals like to catch up with their friends, or relax in their free time and escape the stress of everyday life.
The Alderdi Eder Gardens, located in the heart of the city between the Town Hall and the Concha Bay, comprise of the most typical postcard images of San Sebastian. The gardens feature colourful flowerbeds and the tamarind trees, which are so closely associated with the city. Nearby is Plaza Gipuzkoa, a leafy green square, full of charm and romanticism. The square boasts a wide variety of trees, flowers, and plants, and has a pond with ducks and swans which is very popular with children.
The Jardines de Miramar are a must for anyone visiting the city. With privileged views of La Concha Bay, Miramar Palace was designed to look like an English country manor. The gardens, flowerbeds and pebble paths, roll gently down to the sea.
The Cristina Enea Park is located in the district of Egia, next to the Tabakalera building, and close to the Estación del Norte train station. Cristina Enea is 94,960 square metres of city centre oasis. There’s a beautiful building in the middle of the park, and a wide variety of fully grown trees. Swans and peacocks roam the park freely, lending it an exotic air.
Located on a hill just outside the city centre is Parque de Aiete. Noble and majestic, the park boasts magnificent well-tended gardens and a palace which was once the summer residence of Queen Maria Cristina and King Alfonso XIII. Queens Elizabeth II and Victoria of England are known to have stayed there.
