The beautiful natural landscapes of La Rioja attract photography enthusiasts all year round. But if you go off the beaten track, there are plenty of more remote yet equally fascinating places to discover.
For over ten years, the ‘La Rioja Environment’ Photography Competition has been inviting lovers of the art to focus their attention on the natural beauty of the region. The results, as these pages attest, are spectacular. Having proposed a specific location in La Rioja as the subject of previous competitions, this year, for the 13th edition, participants have been asked to give a personal perspective on the region’s natural heritage, and submit a photograph that successfully captures the nature of La Rioja.
Organised by the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and the Environment, with the collaboration of the La Rioja Photographic Association, the competition is looking for photographs of mountains, forests, rivers and unusual rock formations.
Photographs with urban or farming landscapes as the main component will not be accepted. However, these landscapes may be permitted if they appear as a secondary, complementary element of the photograph. Images of flora, fauna, wild mushrooms or any other natural element that represents the region’s biodiversity may also compete.
The competition, which is open to all photographers, has become a benchmark in nature photography competitions in recent years, thanks to the numerous prizes and the volume and quality of the entries. A selection of the best photographs will be displayed in large format at an outdoor exhibition which will tour Logroño and other large towns in the region.
March 15, 2020 is the deadline for the upcoming edition of the competition which offers 6,300 euros in prizes. More information at: infonaturalezafoto@larioja.org
